Handle with Care: 7 Steps to Cure Medical Debt

pay your bills

Medical Bills. A horrible enemy that attacks the family budget. They just don’t stop coming. One surgery, one accident, one runny nose; the bills just keep flooding in the mailbox. You’re not prepared, and bills have got to be paid. What is your defense mechanism?

Rather than letting the bills pile up, there is a temporary solution to consolidate all of your medical bills with no interest financing. “CareCredit is a personal line of credit for healthcare treatments and procedures for your entire family, including your pets. Simply pay your minimum monthly payment and pay off the entire balance by the end of your promotional period* and you pay No Interest.”

So, how do you get started? Here’s 7 steps to help cure your medical debt with CareCredit:

1. Find a provider that accepts CareCredit. CareCredit is accepted by over 140,000 providers nationwide for services including Cosmetic Services and Procedures, Surgery, LASIK, Dentistry, Hearing Care, Veterinary Care, and more! Visit www.carecredit.com to find a provider near you!

2. Pick a Payment Plan. Not all practices offer every payment plan. Contact your healthcare provider to find out which plans are offered. Be sure to speak with the office manager or billing advisor.

3. Estimate Monthly Payments. The CareCredit website offers a Monthly Payment Calculator. This convenient service offers clients the ability to see what the projected payments will be based on the payment plan you decide on.

4. Apply for your Card. The application process is simple. It can be done through the providers office by filling out an application, online, or by simply by calling 1-800-677-0718. Upon applying, you will instantly learn if you are approved.

5. Visit your Healthcare Provider. Once you receive your CareCredit card, you will be able to use it at your chosen healthcare provider and other providers that accept CareCredit. This process works with ease, just as if you were to use a credit or debit card, no questions asked!

6. Anticipate Interest-Free Payments. Your interest-free payments will appear on a billing statement within 30 days of your charge being processed. For your convenience, payments can be made online simply by accessing your online CareCredit account.

7. Use it again and again. Once you have a CareCredit card, you will be able to use it again for additional medical expenses that come up for your family, including your pets. Like any other credit card, as long as you are in good standing and you have available credit, you can use CareCredit anywhere the card is accepted.

So, there you have it! Forget other credit card companies that want to scalp you with outrageous interest fees. Do yourself a favor and take a ‘careful’ approach to your family medical expenses. For questions about how to apply at Seasons, please contact our Clinical Manager at 255-3223 or our Spa Coordinator at 255-1155.

*No interest promotional periods must be paid in full within 6, 12, 18 or 24 months on purchases with your CareCredit card. Minimum monthly payments are required.

Top 10 Summer Fruits and Veggies

Valerie Costanza, RD

Summer is in full swing and with the hot weather comes delicious fruits and vegetables! We have an abundance of fresh, local harvest here in North Louisiana. You can get these foods directly from local farms or from the farmer’s market (see the map below for directions or visit the Ruston Farmer’s Market website). When preparing your fruits and vegetables, you can be creative while keeping it simple. Here are my top 10 ideas on how to enjoy the wonderful flavors of summer:

  1. Blueberries: best when eaten fresh or on top of salads and oatmeal

  2. Zucchini: cut in strips, season, cover lightly with oil and bake for fries

  3. Tomato: what can you not do with tomato?

  4. Eggplant: slice lengthwise in ½ inch strips, season and grill. Top with sautéed tomato

  5. Green beans: sauté in oil, water, onion and seasonings

  6. Cucumber: slice and place in a pitcher of water…very refreshing!

  7. Bell peppers: stuff with beef, rice and tomato

  8. Peaches: peach salsa with tomato, onion, bell pepper, jalapeno, cilantro and lemon juice

  9. Squash: slice, steam, season and mash

  10. Okra: sauté with tomato

Visit the Ruston Farmer’s Market for fresh, local produce!

Complimentary Services at the Seasons Fall Spectacular

Seasons Fall Spectacular

Relax, renew, rejuvenate.

That’s our motto for the second annual Seasons Fall Spectacular. We’ve been very busy preparing for the event these last few weeks, and patients are going to have a wonderful time. Space is limited, so be sure to download our flier and RSVP at 318.255.3223.

Our month of educational opportunities and complimentary services will begin with the Day of Discovery on September 4 at the Squire Creek Country Club. (Let me tell you, you should come out for the event just to have an excuse to experience this beautiful country club.)

But we’re also going to have some really interesting things for you to see. Patients will have a chance to see live demonstrations of botox, dermal fillers, and and much more. You hear these procedures talked about in the media quite a bit, but we’re going to cut through all the talk and show you exactly what the possibilities are.

I’m particularly excited to demonstrate two new resources available in our Seasons offices. We’ll be offering live demonstrations of both Smooth Shape and the Visia Imaging System. Representatives from these companies will be there too.

You’ll discover new technologies that will help you achieve your personal health and beauty goals. You’ll be able to draw on the expertise of our aestheticians who will help you renew your healthy glow. And we’ll show you how skin care can leave you looking younger and feeling rejuvenated.

This is your opportunity to experience our services, ask questions, see demonstrations, hear professionals, enjoy a little food, and visualize the new you! And best of all…

Everything is complimentary!

A Day of Discovery presented by Seasons Medical Aesthetics and Spa
Squire Creek Country Club, Choudrant, LA
Complimentary services: 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Looking Good Helps You Feel Good

Dr. Nathan GoodyearWe have two Medical Aestheticians working for Seasons Women’s Care, Lisa Best and Terri Grayson.

That’s a fun word to say—aesthetician. (You can hear the pronunciation by going here and clicking on the speaker icon.) But don’t let the word scare you. Aesthetics is just a big word that means something has a pleasing appearance. Merriam-Webster defines aesthetics as “a branch of philosophy dealing with the nature of beauty, art, and taste and with the creation and appreciation of beauty.”

At Seasons, we may not be philosophers, but we are concerned about the aesthetics of our patients. You want to look your best. You want to look youthful. You want to look full of life. And we want to help.

Because looking good is important. When you look good, you feel good.

Think about when you were in High School and you dressed up for a big date. You knew you looked good, and you were certainly feeling good about yourself! You had confidence. That confidence and the wellbeing you get from looking good is beneficial to your body. I wouldn’t go so far as to say it is actually healing to you, but I believe it is very good for your body.

Positive thinking is healthy. That means we want to help you think positive!

Hormone Therapy May Help You Lose Weight

Dr. Nathan GoodyearI am always shocked when I read this statistic: 33% of women in America are obese; 62% are overweight. That’s the bad news. The good news is that obesity among women may be stabilizing.

What is obesity exactly? If your doctor tells you that you are obese, it means your body mass index is greater than 30. A normal body mass index should be less than 25. A body mass index of 25-29.9 is overweight.

Being overweight or obese is the number one health problem facing women today. Period. It leads to diabetes. Hypertension. Cardiovascular disease. Strokes. It can even contribute to cancer. Being obese is a disease, and it should be treated as such.

Here’s what I tell patients who are obese: for your health and longevity, we need to help you lose weight. We’ll start by assessing where you are with your body. Eventually, we’ll put you on a weight loss program, but we need to make sure your body is ready to lose weight first.

How would a body not be ready to lose weight?

Well, if you have estrogen dominance, your body may work against you losing weight. Think about women over forty who start to gain weight around their middle section. They’ve stopped ovulating and stopped producing progesterone. But they are still producing estrogen. That means they’re experiencing “estrogen dominance.”

I know, I know. More medical speak. Don’t worry about what “estrogen dominance” means exactly. Just know that estrogen tells everything to grow… including fat cells. So if you’re in an estrogen dominant state, that’s going to do nothing but promote weight gain.

If we don’t address the estrogen problem, you’re not going to be able to lose weight very efficiently. That’s why we often start with hormone therapy.
