From the Doctor’s Desk: Solving the Varicose Vein Dilemma

Dr. Nathan Goodyear
As a physician, I want to offer solutions to the health issues my patients complain of the most. And a frequent complaint is varicose veins.
Seasons now offers the latest advancement in varicose vein treatment: endovenous laser therapy, also known as Varilase. With the addition of Varilase, Seasons now provides a comprehensive vein treatment strategy which includes sclerotherapy, phlebectomy, and Varilase.
If you have friends who’ve experienced failures in varicose vein treatment, there’s a good reason. In fact, many who suffer with varicose veins don’t seek treatment because current therapies don’t always work. Varilase is unique. It is a treatment focused on the cause rather than the symptoms
This makes it a great fit for Seasons where we remain committed to treating the cause of health problems and not just the symptoms.

So What Is Varilase?
It is an in-office procedure where I use a small fiber laser to close the greater and lesser saphenous veins, the cause of most varicose veins. The procedure takes about 30-45 minutes. Patients can walk immediately following the procedure, bruising is minimal, and pain is almost non-existent. (In fact, our first client walked 3 miles that evening … I don’t encourage that, but she did without any problem.)
The appearance of unsightly, twisted and swollen veins is certainly the most obvious complaint associated with varicose veins.
Since My Veins Don’t Look Bad, This Doesn’t Apply To Me. Right?
There are other symptoms which could make you consider Varilase. Your legs may not look lumpy, but you may already have venous insufficiency if you experience these symptoms:
- Swelling, throbbing, or cramping at night
- Difficulty walking
- Leg swelling
- Restless legs
- Itching and burning of legs
- Venous ulcers on legs
If you have any of these symptoms, call our office to schedule a screening. During the screening process, we can determine if your symptoms are caused by venous insufficiency and also determine if you are a candidate for the Varilase procedure.
Varilase is offered at our Ruston medical office: Seasons Women’s Care, 411 E. Vaughn Ave., Suite 201, Ruston, LA. You can contact us at 318-255-3223 to schedule your screening.
As Oliver Wendell Holmes once said, “It is not so much where we stand, but in what direction we are moving.” At Seasons, our goal is wellness, health solutions, and great customer service. And Varilase is a step in a good direction.
